Add a natural scent. Fabrics such as clothes present a prime breeding ground for mold. Don t pack clothes or other items too tightly in closets. Make sure that clothes are completely dry before storing them in closets.

If you have moldy clothes hanging in your closet the spores can easily spread and settle in new locations such as on the carpet and on the walls of the closet. In your closet look for signs of mold mildew or anything else that contributes to the musty smell. Allow damp clothes linens or towels to dry completely before storing them in a closet. Cotton provides food or nutrients for mold and the absorbent nature of fabrics allows them to retain moisture.

The moisture in clothing can accelerate mold growth. Mildew mold are funguses that thrive in warm humid moist and dark environments and typically our washing machines and our clothes that we hang wet in a sealed dark closets or drawers will be the ideal places for this mildew to develop and this will lead to the mildew laundry smell on clothing garments. If mold and mildew have spread on your clothes sanitize them with bleach during laundry to eliminate the musty odors and mold spores. Store only clean clothing and items in closets as dirt and other organic substances are potential food sources for mold.

For mildew attached to painted metal closet doors use denatured alcohol to wipe it away. If discovered be sure to repair them.
