The chimney crown which can also be referred to as a chimney wash is a large slab that covers the top opening of the chimney. There are also decorative models such as copper caps which are more costly but require less maintenance. Most commonly chimney crowns are made of poured concrete and free from cracks and crumbling. Generally made of metal they are installed just inside the chimney.

The chimney crown is placed atop the masonry chimney as a form of protection against the weather. Typically copper chase covers are used in place of stainless steel for aeshtetic purposes. Often used to cover chimney chase surrounds or brick masonry crowns it fits over the top of the chimney like a shoe box cover fits the top of a shoe box. This serves two purposes.

The most common are metal which are available in aluminum copper and stainless steel. As crowns withstand a lot of abuse they need to be made out of a solid material. If your chimney has multiple flues choose between a set of small caps or one large multi flue cover for a cleaner look. The copper chase cover covers the entire top of your chimney.
