Measure Lamp Shades Size

Your shade should be about two thirds the height of your lamp base give or take an inch.

If you have a square lamp shade it obviously won t have slope. What is the best size lampshade for a table lamp. Sometimes a shade s slope is referred to as its height. The floor lamp shade s height must be approximately the height of the base x30.

Place the end of the measuring tape at the top edge of the shade and pull it down to the bottom edge to measure the slope. Measure the shade s sloping side. Set the shade down on the table once more. To find the best size lampshade start by measuring the lamp itself using a tape measure or ruler. Flip the lamp shade right side up. Using a measuring tape or a ruler measure your lamp from the bottom of the base to the point where the electrical socket attaches to the base.

Flip the lamp shade upside down and measure from one edge to the opposite edge across the bottom diameter just as you did when measuring the top. Measure shade height along the slant. If you are happy with the size of the shade you are replacing just measure the old one with a ruler or retractable tape measure. Next measure the widest part of your lamp base.

The height of a floor lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base x 30 to 40. At 16 a little under 90 of the base. So for a 6 inch lamp base the shade should be. Write down these numbers so you don t forget them later on.

If you have a square lamp shade measure along its width from corner to corner to get the top measurement. Measure the shade height along with the slant. The height of a table lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base to bottom of socket x 60 up to 70. The shade should be twice as wide as the lamp base and one third of the total height of the lamp.

Height of the shade. Make a note of the height shown as c and width d. The width or the diameter of the table shade must never exceed the height of the bases. Since the lamps diameters are smaller than the desk s width they are the correct size.
